• What is the goal of life? It is absolute liberation of the soul and self- realization.
• Man wants power and peace. Where there is restraint, there is power and power begets peace, surely.
• He who is firm in his vow and steadfast in resolution can attain success in any sphere.
• Where there is no struggle, there is no success. A steadfast worker becomes increasingly stronger through continuous struggle against antagonistic forces inside & outside the mind.
The infallible message of, Acharyadev Srimat Swami Pranavanandaji Maharaj, 1896 to 1941, Founder: Bharat Sevashram Sangha, “India will not remain in a slumbering state for long. India will awake, arise and be reinstated on the exalted alter of the world. But, India will have to entitle herself to regain that seat on the world stage.” ‘The Divine Life Builder’
Acharyadev sent a clarion call to the youths, “Ye are the future of this glorious nation. You are to see that India occupies her rightful place. A nation is judged by the character of its people. Despite subjugation for thousands of years, due to its lofty ideals, our country was held in high esteem by the entire world. If we can inculcate those ideals in our individual life, only then our country will regain its glorious position.”
Acharyadev Pranavananda Ji himself led a life of rigorous austerities. It was revealed that while he attended his school and other worldly duties during the day, he passed his nights in the dreadful cremation ground for the peace and quiet — best for his rigorous meditation. The villagers including the elders looked upon him with respect and admiration. He earned the epithet of “Sadhu” from the rank and file when he was just a youth. He became a cynosure of his village and the surrounding villages. Soon a band of young men gathered around him. Seven Monks became his ‘Sapt Rishis’ and many became his future volunteers/workers.
The wise claimed that service and sacrifice are the twin strands of ‘Indian Ideals’. Archaryadev made those the motto of his life. He always stood by the side of the distressed and sick and helped to nurse them back to good health. He begged alms from door to door and helped the needy. He had a deep compassion for all lives (not only humanity) but all God’s creatures. His caring behavior with all beings reminded everyone of the story of his birth that he was none other than ‘Lord Shiva’ who descended on earth in mortal form. Though the distressed and needy found a friend in him, he was dreaded by the anti- social elements as they knew that they would not be spared if they interfered.
The pilgrim centers are the heart of the nation. All the new thoughts and ideals are infused in the nation through these centers. Every Hindu hankers after visiting these centers even once in a life time. Archaryadev made it a point to purge the pilgrimage centers of the selfish elements. In order to accomplish this feat, he established Bharat Sevashram Sangha centers at Gaya, Varanasi, Puri, Allahabad, Vrindavan, Kurukshetra, Hardwar, Nabadwip, H. Q. Kolkata, India.
Acharyadev proclaimed, Dharma is the summum bonum of Indian life. But religious rites that are imprisoned with selfish motives cannot be bestowed of its desired effect. Dharma loses its very spirit if it has no bearing on our social and national life”. Acharyadev arranged large conferences at the times of religious ceremonies in an effort to bring home the true spirit of those ceremonies.
Acharyadev observed that many a leader have been born in this country and numerous movements have been launched but the country has not moved forward because of national disintegration. The solution was to launch “Milan Mandir Movement” in every village and cities. The villagers assembled weekly to discuss the problems of the society and to find solutions. Those assemblages were devoid of politics. All the centers were interlinked with one another and connected with the central center so that any problem arising in any corner of the country were known to all and the entire nation would stand up as one unit to solve the problem. Each individual had to be convinced that the entire nation has their back. Without unity and organization, large number/mass was deemed of no use. With this asset, Acharyadev embarked upon his Milan Mandir Movements.
Swami Pranavananda was an Acharya (World Teacher) who practiced every principle of an Acharya in his own life and set an example as an Acharya. Swami Pranavananda practiced every principle precisely in his boyhood, youth and adult life in order to build up character, develop physical, mental, moral and spiritual powers. His life was and still is an inspiration to the society, especially to the youths. During his lifetime, Archaryadev was venerated a God’s incarnation by thousands of people throughout Eastern India.
India has produced many saints, but few had any comprehensive plan to organize the Hindu nation and still fewer started such movement. Acharya looked at the downfall of the Hindus and felt embarrassed and wondered if they were the same Hindus who had produced the storehouse of spirituality, the Vedas, the Upanishads, Bhagwad Gita, etc. He thought that Hindu Culture must have the potentiality to be reinstated and could serve mankind in its spiritual quest. He sowed the seed of Dharma-Rastra, a Religion State, where no one was treated as a second-class citizen. Each and every individual irrespective of their caste, creed, faith or national origin were treated with respect and dignity.
Swami Vedananda (a direct disciple of Acharyadev) wrote about him: “A life-long bachelor, he remained at home until he established the Sangha; attending school, doing daily exercises, occasionally playing games, helping in household matters, organizing social services, advising youngsters about disciplined life. He talked little, ate little, slept little; he was a quiet pleasant youth, lost in himself, dear to all, sweet-spoken, yet spirited and powerful. This strange ‘sadhaka’ (spiritual practitioner) strode with swift but firm pace towards his goal”.
Today, Hindu Milan Mandirs have sprouted up not only in India but in all continents of the world. The Hindu Milan Mandir of Minnesota, USA was initiated and inaugurated by Swami Purnatmanandaji Maharaj of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Kolkata, India in Year 2000. The Executive Members and devotees of Hindu Milan Mandir dedicate this center to the Founding Father, Acharyadev Srimat Swami Pranavanandaji Maharaj, lovingly called “Guru Maharaj.”
